Introducing Keming Design Studio

Starting a business in 2020 (a wedding business, at that) was probably one of the scariest decisions I’ve had to make in my life. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the wedding industry was probably one of the most impacted, and still is. From travel bans to capacity restrictions, the majority of weddings and events were postponed or even cancelled. As we roll into 2021 (is it really March already?) I feel a sense of hope that the industry will recover and people everywhere will be able to celebrate with their friends and family once again.

I have always wanted to be a business owner. The “American dream” if you will. After spending over eight years in the wedding stationery industry, I finally had that glorified epiphany moment of: “Hey, I can do this. Myself.” And so it began.

Over the years, I had done a few projects for friends and family as favors. Small jobs, here and there, but they all held the same level of significance. I had found the joy in designing while being unencumbered. Towards the end of 2019, I took the first steps – registering my business, snatching up my domain name, paying for website hosting, and more.

My small but mighty workstation

In came 2020. I had my first couple of jobs, and then the pandemic hit. Weddings and events were effectively on hold, indefinitely. My heart broke for both my amazing couples and my baby of a business. A lot of people would have hunkered down and let this set the fire under their ass to work on their website, marketing materials, or network with other industry professionals. For me, however, COVID-19 really put a damper on my mental state and I started second guessing every single little thing about Keming. Should there be a shop function? Would I focus on semi-custom or custom or both? What if I try and fail? Basically, I suffered from good old “paralysis by analysis”.

Now, in 2021, things are finally (somewhat) on track. My website is up, albeit lacking some content and definitely not pixel-perfect as I would have preferred. But this is something I had to get over and realize that it was more important to have something out there, rather than nothing at all.

While I will always strive for perfection, I also realize and acknowledge that rarely are things actually perfect.

So what exactly is Keming Design Studio, anyway? I like to think that my goal is to help my clients express themselves through purposefully designed paper goods. Anything print or paper related, I’m your gal. Whether it’s wedding invitations for your special day, personalized stationery for your correspondence needs, or simply some napkins for your Sunday brunch, I can handle it.

Even if you already have a design or print-ready files, I can still help with the print aspects. Email me at hello@kemingdesignstudio.com to learn more (even if you’d just like to chat!) or Book Now.
